friends brought us a potato/ parsnip galette
& tiramisu last night. so good. i wish they had
stayed & eaten with us but they went home after
chatting a bit. on friday braxton's aunt & sister
& her kids will be here for the weekend--that will
be nice :)

still trying to figure out the baby carrier thing.
i got a ring sling from sleeping baby--i think i like it?
his bum isn't low enough but this was easier to put on.
need to work on it. he spit up on it as soon as i put him in it,
of course. now i have this sbp rs, moby, ergo + insert, zolowear rs &
new native pouch. i kind of want a fancy wrap, too, after
looking at all the fsot posts on thebabywearer, but
i will wait on that. ha.

after i get my license (i need to schedule a road test!!)
i want to go to a babywearing meeting. there is a group
in dayton & one in cincinnati, too.

well, i tried again... a little better? his head still slumps forward,
though, so his chin is pressed against his chest aeghghghghghgh what do i dooooooo.

have to get my license soon because i need to drive
to dayton airport at the end of june to go to idaho to see
my brother do iron man in coeur d'alene. braxton
will be away at a conference, so baby & i need to drive
him there, back home, & back to the airport... my mom
wants me to take a shuttle, but i am not sure what to do
about a car seat, then? do shuttles have car seats?
i'm not taking baby's car seat because my parents are driving
to idaho from california & they have one... less for me to lug...
i guess i could put baby's car seat in the shuttle and then stash it
in our car in the parking lot, if braxton drove himself and
left it there.... ugh.

sleepy me.

Last night I got kinda really way tipsy at my after-work event and then, despite not drinking anything else, got progressively drunker as [info]sherwood21 bless her heart, helped me with the armhole issue. By the time she left I was nearly passing out, and then I did pass out around 7:00 and when I woke up it was nearly 1:00 a.m. I peeled out of my clothes, drug myself to bed, and slept for another five and a half hours.

Notes to self:
1. My tolerance is way lower than it used to be (clean living makes me a cheap date)
2. Three glasses of wine in an hour and a half on an empty stomach would've put me a bit over the line even when my tolerance was high.

Obviously, I did not get a lot done last night. And maybe I have a little bit of a headache this morning. *tsk*

Hello! I am new to this community and also relatively new to sewing. I've been sewing for a few years but only really basic things, and never using a pattern. I found a nice McCall's dress pattern labeled easy, and bought fabric for the dress size I wear in ready made things (size 16). When I measured myself to make sure, according to the pattern, I should make size 22! That's quite a big difference. Well, my bust measurement was spot on for 16, my waist was 22, and my hips were 20. I assume that means I should be making the size 22. Am I correct? Any tips or advice would very much appreciated. Thanks in advance! I look forward to learning from this community, it seems like a fun place to be. :-)

I measured at 567 words per minute on this quicky test, which is in line with how I rated forty years ago.  My middle sister clears 1,000 words a minute easily without skimming.  Watching her read a book is impressive.

When I started teaching high school, I had several sections of "Reading," which was really a study skills class.  I learned that high school students averaged 200 or so words a minute.  Much below that pace and reading would not be an enjoyable activity.  The slower reader couldn't make the movie-in-the-mind that faster readers enjoyed.  At some point in slowness, the reader is "word calling," which doesn't even make a sentence comprehensible since each word presents a new, disconnected challenge from the word before.

Here's a table of reading speeds in a reader-friendly format.  I've seen these reading speeds interpreted differently, but they're close enough for this post.

SO! All you folks who watched "The Reichenbach Fall" on PBS for the first time last night. How ya doin' this morning? There are a few faculty members and grad students watching it and I told them to just swing by my office today. No reason, just...you know. I wanted to see their faces.

Cut for MOAR Reichenbach gifs also SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS )

In less-giddy news, the scarf didn't take the dye at all. Not a smidgen. So it must be made of some non-dye-friendly acrylic. God damn it. So now I gotta find a scarf.
